My husband and I recently spent a month on this beautiful island for our retreat business and some well-deserved spiritual rest and rejuvenation. This is where we had our own spiritual awakening over 9 years ago when we spent a whole month here, soaking up the spiritual energy that is all around the island of Bali.
It’s called the “Island of the Gods” for a reason—Bali is a place truly unlike any other. This Indonesian island just south of the equator in the Java Sea is brimming with natural and cultural wonders. Blanketed in vibrant jungles and rice terraces, laced with clear-running waterfalls and sacred springs, and infused with Hindu and new-age spirituality, Bali invites you to dive into the healing journey. And, as many people are discovering, those very qualities make it an excellent destination for luxury rehab.
Bali is a province of Indonesia and the westernmost of the Lesser Sunday Islands. East of Java and west of Lombok, the province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller offshore islands, notably Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan to the southeast.
Bali is the only Hindu-majority province in Indonesia, with 86.9% of the population adhering to Balinese Hinduism. Balinese culture was strongly influenced by Indian, Chinese, and particularly Hindu culture. It is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. But it is also known for its many yoga retreats and spiritual healing treatments and ceremonies that it provides.
EAT, PRAY, LOVE...
You may have seen the movie Eat, Pray Love, which was set in the beautiful hill town of Ubud in 2006. Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir Eat, Pray, Love book that was published. Both the book and the film fuelled a boom in tourism in Ubud, a cultural and tourist centre that was the focus of Gilbert's quest for balance and love through traditional spirituality and healing.
My husband and I love it here, and we often provide healing retreats for small groups of ladies who wish to have spiritual healing on all levels and to be within the beauty of nature and peace.
Bali’s remote location and distinct culture make it feel as if you’ve broken away from your everyday concerns and stepped into a world where nature sets the tone. It’s the perfect place to let go of old patterns and settle into a new environment, complete with supportive people surrounding you and positive goals to set your sights on.
Bali is home to a thriving wellness community, attracting yogis from around the world to deepen their practice and join restorative retreats in its meditative setting. Health nuts love recharging with fresh juices and dining on local dishes like nasi campur, which is made with local tempeh and crunchy organic veggies grown in the island’s rich volcanic soil. Those who want to dabble in new modalities can try classes like chanting, sound healing, and Qigong.
This holistic approach to wellness is reflected in the treatment programs offered at Bali. Their philosophy of body, spirit and mind aligns with the Balinese philosophy of tri hita karana (3 causes of well-being), bringing together the realms of the spirit, the human world, and nature.
Bali is an island that seems to have been made for healing and recovery. The island of Bali is the centre of the Earth's Kundalini energy and is therefore considered to be the Mecca of healing.
A true paradise, it has beautiful landscapes, fascinating culture, thriving arts, and gorgeous beaches, along with a spiritual history and philosophy focused on growth, rehabilitation and rebirth. You can go there to relax and be renewed, and you’ll leave with a new life.
Our Magical Time In Bali
We got to enjoy lots of beautiful temples, paddy fields, nature walks, cultural programs, water cleansing rituals, and the best beaches, sampling the local food, cooking the local food, and mixing with our friends and the local community. We also visited local health and healing retreats and ashrams, provided our own healing yoga and health retreats, and had lots of fun in the process.
Bali provides a calm environment where the healing of the human spirit is emphasised as a path to ultimate wellness. A space where transformation, personal growth and self-empowerment are fostered through the use of intuitive holistic healing arts and hands-on therapies.
This time, it was for us to enjoy also and to have some amazing treatments, some of which I have brought home with me to my therapy room in Oxfordshire, such as:
Spiritual Healing Therapies From Bali To The UK:
Spiritual Healing Balinese Massage
Balinese Massage - The best way to improve your life. A Balinese massage originated in Bali and comprises a series of acupressure, stretching, aromatherapy, reflexology, and soft-flowing techniques. It stimulates the flow of blood, oxygen, and "qi" (energy) around your body and brings a sense of well-being, calm, and deep relaxation.
Aromatherapy forms an important part of a Balinese massage. The use of scented massage oil can be very therapeutic, with the aroma of the essential oils soothing your mind. Some essential oils suitable for this type of massage are very rare and can only be found on the island of Bali or, more generally, in Indonesia, such as the frangipani essential oil, which is known for its mood-boosting properties. The massage oil also helps massage strokes become fluid and free of friction, which makes for a more comfortable treatment.
Balinese massage is a good treatment to choose if you want to experience a variety of massage techniques, need some help to relax, or if you're feeling a bit low. A relaxation massage with attitude, this treatment will help you feel calm, but it will boost your circulation and target knotted tissue to address physical issues as well.
The 90-minute full-body session, which includes the face and head - £88.00
Sound Healing Journey
Simply lie down and close your eyes to receive the sounds in this private healing journey. The sounds of Tibetan singing bowls and various other instruments, such as chimes and bells, help you to slow down your brain waves and relax deeply. Sound healing is based on the principle that everything is vibration and that sound can help us to realign with our natural harmonic state of being.
The sounds will help release blockages on physical, emotional and energetic levels, increase a sense of well-being and expand your consciousness. If you wish, the sound healing practitioner will also place singing bowls on your body so you can actually feel the vibration travelling through your body. Essential oil sprays will further enhance your multi-sensory experience, which can have profound effects on your journey toward balance between body, mind, and spirit.
75 minutes - £60.00
Balinese Reiki Chakra Energy Healing
The purpose of this Balinese Reiki Chakra Energy healing is to support a balanced flow that will sustain our overall level of energy. In our everyday lives, we are subjected to a number of activities, sources of stress, and demands that result in fluctuations in our energy levels. Some may feel draining, others fulfilling or nourishing. Furthermore, past events and experiences often leave a long-lasting influence on how we feel and are in the world, therefore influencing how we manage our energy day to day.
The stress placed on us by the demands of life may result in interruptions and fluctuations in our energy flow and chakra imbalances.
Chakras are energy centres or portals in the energy field. They play an important role in the health of your energy systems, including your physical body. Located along the central channel of the body from the base of the spine to the top of the head, they are conceived of as whirling, wheel-like vortices through which universal/cosmic energy flows into and out of a person.
